Associate Professor in the Department of Construction Engineering -Director of the Environmental Engineering Graduate Program at the American University in Cairo
Dr. Ahmed El-Gendy, is an associate professor in the Department of Construction Engineering and also the Director of the Environmental Engineering Graduate Program at the American University in Cairo.
Dr. El-Gendy received his BSc in Civil Engineering and MSc in Environmental Engineering from Ain Shams University, Egypt. He also received his PhD in Environmental Engineering from the University of Windsor, Canada. He is a Fulbright alumnus (University of Iowa). Dr. El-Gendy has more than 27 years of academic and professional experiences. His areas of research include, water purification and wastewater treatment technologies, water quality, sludge management and treatment, phyto-technology, remediation of contaminated sites, hazardous waste treatment, air pollution from mobile sources and waste to energy engineering.
Dr. El-Gendy has published over 80 journal and conference papers and a patent. He is an associate editor of the journal of “Climate Change and Cities” and a reviewer for more than 14 top journals in the field of Environmental Engineering. He was also involved in the scientific committees and chaired some international conferences, symposiums and workshops in the fields of water engineering, solid waste management and air pollution. Dr. El-Gendy supervised/currently supervises more than 40 MSc theses and PhD dissertations. Dr. El-Gendy worked as a consultant in some engineering projects on the national level and abroad. He was involved in projects on water and wastewater treatment, environmental impact assessment, site remediation and solid waste management.
