Walid Hakiki has been working in the field of water resources planning and management since 1992. He participated in developing policies, strategies and plans for water sector in Egypt since 1998. Since 2005, He started working in a regional context in the Nile Basin region, the Arab region and in the Mediterranean region.

Mr. Hakiki received B.Sc. of Civil Engineering in 1990 from Cairo University, Egypt and M.Sc. in Water Resources Management in 1999 from Luneburg University in Germany.

Walid Hakiki worked as a member of a national technical secretariat that coordinates policies, strategies and plans of nine Ministries that are involved in water resources planning and management in Egypt. The secretariat reports to a Supreme Council for Nile River Protection that is chaired by the Egyptian Prime Minister.

Mr. Hakiki also worked as the spokesperson for the Egyptian Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation (MWRI). He is currently working as the Head of the Central Directorate for Studies and Designs of the Reservoirs and Grand Barrages Sector, MWRI. He is also the Director of the Egyptian-Dutch Water Advisory Panel Unit.
