Prof. Dr. Abdel Kawi Khalifa is currently a Professor of Irrigation and Hydraulic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University. He was the Former Minister, the Ministry of Water & Wastewater Utilities (2013), Governor of Cairo (2011) and Chairman of the Holding Company for Water & Wastewater (2004-2011).
Dr. Khalifa is an International Water Leader with over 45 years of local, regional and international experience in the field of water projects management, and civil engineering, with intensive practices in irrigation designs, drainage systems, domestic water supply, sewerage networks, water resources, desalination projects, water budget study, and harbor, coastal engineering. He is highly experienced in the field of ground and surface hydrology as well as environmental engineering. As an academic professor, Dr.Khalifa designed and taught many courses related to irrigation, drainage, hydrology, coastal engineering, environmental engineering, water resources, and construction management. Experience with international organizations and donors in a number of
projects.
Dr. Khalifa has received his BSc. degree (1969) with Honors in Civil Engineering, Ain Shams University, Cairo; MSc. degree (1976) in Petroleum Engineering, University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA”; and Ph.D. degree (1980) in Civil Engineering, University of Windsor, Windsor, Ontario, Canada.
Dr. Khalifa also currently owns a private consulting firm (Khalifa Consulting Engineers KCE), which is operating locally and regionally since 1996 in all engineering disciplines, especially in the field of public works, irrigation, and hydraulics engineering. Sample projects include design and preparation of the tender documents for Saint Catherine City against flash floods, a dam and an irrigation system for an area of 7500 acres, in Albania, new quays/jetties for recreational/touristic boats, Luxor and water supply network, and water purification plant for Hosh Eisa Directorate, Beheira Governorate, Egypt
